Wood and Rod Iron Coffee Table Upcycle

My furniture is always changing. I find my ugly duckling furniture pieces and drag them home a couple of times a week. But normally I fix them up and sell them after my project. As I went on my daily trip to the thrift stores today I came across this table which didn't need much done to it and I LOVED for myself!  Even though it was more than I ever pay for a table I decided to buy it for my sun porch.

As you can see it has wonderful simple design, but what I didn't like is the dark wood that was on the finish. I wanted something with a lighter colored look.

I sanded off the old varnish making sure to go along the grain. I then added a maple stain but kept the darker sides for depth and within a half an hour, I have a new table.

Bar Stools Get A Step Up

I have a friend who always calls me after their annual yard sale. She gives me items that I pass on to my ministries and to whomever may need the items that they have left over. This year as I was going through the items she gave to me,  I came across these wonderful bar stools. I couldn't believe that no one bought them and they were leftover from the sale. There was nothing wrong with them that a little TLC couldn't fix.

After a little upholstery paint, (yes they make upholstery paint), they look as good as new. I found the paint at an outlet store for .99 cents. I then polished up the chrome with some steel wool and "good as new"!

Everywhere I go seems like everyone is starting to get ready for Christmas already. So it made me think, why not think of some things to do with the kids while there is still plenty of time. I think we have gotten carried away with the Christmas rush, extending our credit cards and all the hoopla. New View For Vintage Windows

I recently came across some old windows for a great deal. I drove 2 hours with my grandson to pick them up and drag all 35 of them home. When I arrived I was looking at some small town history right in front of me. The stories those windows could have told. Some were in bad shape, others not as bad. But what they all had was character. I couldn't wait to bring them home and begin to let my imagination run wild. Here are some of the windows and the pictures of my creativity for a few of them.

Many looked like this, a little run down, It just needed some TLC and to be Reloved.

At Fourth of July I was inspired and made an outdoor flag Wall Art for the Front Porch. I used the handle from the flag as a decoration down the left side and added some stars to the outer part of the window.

Vintage window with legs from a thrift store table give this vintage window a leg up.

I love stained glass, but it is so expensive. I decided to use stain paint and made my own faux stained glass and added vintage hardware for effect.

After many projects I decided to use up the leftover windows that I had and made a greenhouse that I plan on utilizing next summer to start plants and for an herb garden.

Here is a TV cart that I bought at an auction for 4.00. Solid Wood for the most part with a ceramic top. I love to find things that need TLC! I also try to buy mismatched paint at my local HomeDepot.com, then mix the colors to make new colors. Not only does it save you money, it also allows you to be creative as well. Today I mixed blue and gray paints to add much needed updating to the color and revamped the handles with my favorite nickel color spray paint for the handles and voilà a new look.

TV Console Turned Hutch For $10.00

I thought I would share a find that I have upcycled lately. It was a Made in Italy by Ballard Designs Console. I picked it up at the local thrift store for 8.00. I decided that I wanted it much higher than the 2 inch ball legs that were on it. I wanted to turn it into a hutch that I could utilize more than as a TV stand.

 

 I had a coffee table that I made the top of this bench seat from. What remained were 4 legs and the decorative edge from the coffee table.

 

Upon measuring the decorative edge from the coffee table it was almost a perfect fit.

 

I then applied the decorative edge, along with the legs from the leftover coffee table and it worked out better than I thought. I used the same hardware as well and screwed everything into place.

 

After applying all of my pieces, I repainted it and gave it a shabby look. I can't believe I found a console made in Italy by Ballard Designs that normally sells for $600.00. I paid 8.00 for the console and the left over pieces of a $2.00 coffee table.
